Chennai flood - Sorrow of TN UPSC aspirants

Image
Cyclones and storms are usual nightmares in the Bay of Bengal during the months of October to December but it was and is an extra-baggage of worry to the Tamilnadu aspirants preparing for UPSC because every year they have to face the most crucial part of their dream, that is the Mains examination during these months. Since the capital city - Chennai is the only center for this examination the aspirants from the entire state have to suffer majorly during this period. Source: IndiaGlitz Since 2003 I was preparing for the exam and my stay in Chennai started from then. My first Mains was during 2006 October and it turned out to be a real nightmare. Those days there were no established coaching centers as of now and we were devoid of internet connection and smartphones. So lack of information made me suffer. I was not aware of this climatic condition and it was during the last day of the examination, as I stepped out of the house I saw suddenly formed lakes around the house, nothing but t

Diwali is a fest of savings and pride to me

Image
Diwali is one festival that brings the utmost joy to the people of India because even if we want to stay away from it, the sound of crackers will definitely reach our ears and create a sense of celebration mood automatically. It gives pleasure to people celebrating it and also to those who are witnessing these celebrations. In the North, it is celebrated in the memory of the return of Lord Ram and Sita to Ayodhya after winning over Raavan, in the south it is celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Krishna and Sathya Bama over Narakasura, thus depicting a moral of victory of good over the bad. Source: Medium My father, as I registered in earlier articles, is an ardent Periyar follower, so he clings to the point that Narakasura is a Dravidian who was killed by Lord Krishna who is supposed to be an Aryan. With this funny sarcasm, he always marks Diwali as a ‘Black day’ to the Dravida people. But already I have registered that he was not a blind pseudo-Periyarist, so keeping away his sarca

Source: The News Minute A worth enough to cherish for life experience in Tamilnadu Police Academy || Cop in blood and nerve

Image
21st October is being celebrated as Police Commemoration Day as an act of paying respect to the brave police personnel who sacrificed their lives while in service. On this great occasion, as a proud daughter of a great police officer and as an aspirant who had the great ambition of becoming an IPS officer myself, I would like to share a valuable experience I underwent at Tamilnadu Police Academy which is located near Vandalur, Chennai. It was ten years before when I was totally shattered by the heavy loss of losing my father and my ambition together, I got a precious opportunity to take part in a program called “Citizen Cop” arranged by an NGO named PCVC in collaboration with the Tamilnadu Police. It was a five days program in which the organization selected a few school-going students of higher secondary level and were imparted a basic level training about the police and the working method of the department.   The project coordinator was my well-wisher so I had the opportunity to tak

Things the name Abdul Kalam reminds me || My familiarity about him

APJ Abdul Kalam - One of the greatest inspirations of India in the contemporary period. In this article, I am not to share his biography but would like to share my familiarity with him. In May 1998, suddenly the country went to an excitement mode on announcing the nuclear power of India to the world. One man was celebrated by the entire nation for the successful Pokhran nuclear test II and entitled him as the ‘Missile Man of India’ and that was the honorable scientist Abdul Kalam.  Source: eurekamoment.co I was at my adolescent age and knew nothing about missiles or nuclear power but what really attracted me was the news that this man has over-smarted the famous CIA intelligence and earned the country a remarkable position in the field of Space. From nowhere the students of the country started thronging upon him and got inspired by him because he was a great scientist but more than that was a great teacher. In 2002 he was made the 11th president of the country for his great contributi

The unknown interesting dimensions of Che Guevara

Image
  Che Guevara! The icon of revolution for the freedom of the people of the world. This very thought of him places him in a unique place in my heart. Many people may know him by his face but not by his name because he is one of the trending fashion icons among youngsters. He is the villain of the US or he is portrayed so just because he stood like a rock against imperialism which ruined the Latin American countries and transformed them into mere banana republics. When we hear his name we think of revolution, battle, the struggle for freedom, etc but there few other colorful dimensions of him which many may not notice or totally unaware of. I would like to share such aspects in this blog. Person of determination:  Che’s parents came to know that he is affected with asthma when he was just 2 years old. But his determination was so solid that his favorite sport was Rugby, which is known for its ferocity where even normal people get exhausted. But Che had never given up and was popularly kn

Know why Drona, the excellent teacher could never attain the status of 'Guru' || Mahabharat life lessons

Image
Dronacharya, the great teacher of Kuru dynasty princes - Pandavas and Kauravas got mentally shattered into pieces after the declaration of Krishna that he is undoubtedly a great teacher but can never attain the status of excellence as a Guru. This life lesson to Drona by Krishna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra provides us the valuable protocol of how an excellent Guru should be. Also, clearly explains the difference between a teacher and a Guru where the teacher attains prestige while Guru attains divinity. Source: Ramayan Krishna explains that a teacher is a mere instructor imparting knowledge of a pre-defined set of information to his pupils and guides them to attain par excellence as an individual. He gets a return back for this effort in terms of fees or favor. But a Guru is something beyond a teacher where he imparts all wisdom he possesses to his disciples thus turning them to be beneficial to the welfare of the entire society. He never expects anything in return and this quali
