Dronacharya, the great teacher of Kuru dynasty princes - Pandavas and Kauravas got mentally shattered into pieces after the declaration of Krishna that he is undoubtedly a great teacher but can never attain the status of excellence as a Guru. Krishna explains that a teacher is a mere instructor imparting knowledge of a pre-defined set of information to his pupils and guides them to attain par excellence as an individual. He gets a return back for this effort in terms of fees or favor. But a Guru is something beyond a teacher where he imparts all wisdom he possesses to his disciples thus turning them to be beneficial to the welfare of the entire society. He never expects anything in return and this quality offers a Guru a higher position than the teachers.

Drona who gets insulted by his Gurukul friend Dhrupad of Panchala kingdom develops a sense of vengeance in himself and with an intention of taking revenge for this insult, he approaches the Kingdom of Hastinapur and offers to train the princes so that he can develop an army of students to retaliate on behalf of him. Without a doubt, he is the one who gave the world’s excellent archer Arjuna but at the same time, it was a selfish act which took him to the edge of conducting injustice to Eklavya, who dedicated himself to Drona considering him as his Guru, by cutting off his thumb in the form of fees, just to project Arjuna as the prime archer.

The reason behind all these vengeance and selfishness is just only one thing, that is the welfare of his son Ashwathama. Krishna explains how his blind love for his son has taken him also in the path of injustice along with his son. Drona being a Brahmin wanted his son to be a King of a kingdom which he got from king Dhrupad by his students as a return back thus losing the very status of Guru there itself. When he finds his son developing a friendship with Duryodhana who is well known for the wrong conduct, he instead of advising him to cut off this relation, just ignored only because he was selfish that his son would get some benefits from the royal family.

The grave offense done by him was the silence he maintained during the disrobing of Draupadi whom he considered as his daughter, only because his son was standing in support of Duryodhana. Later he took part in the Kurukshetra war and crossed all protocols just to save his son. When he hears the news of the demise of his son he even tries to wage Brahmastra to destroy the entire world thus putting all his expertise and wisdom in vain. Krishna points out the difference between blind love and pure affection, also explains how his blind love has turned his son into the greatest sinner instead of making him wise, by which he ended up in waging Brahmastra into the womb of Uttara and gets cursed by Krishna to wander like a demon forever.
