Girl, learn some self-defense

When she was raped, you came up with various reasons. You said she did not wear proper clothes. You said she was characterless since she was outside in the nighttime. You said she was moving freely with boys without knowing her limits. You said she must be arrogant since she was daring. You said her brought up must be bad since she fell in love. And whatnot?

Now, tell me one reason why a trainee doctor, who worked non-stop for about 36 hours and entered a seminar hall just to study and take a break since there was no resting place in the hospital where she has been pursuing her PG course, was raped and brutally murdered. I was not aware of the issue when it flashed on the news. I was out of town when it became sensational news.

When I returned home and when my mother asked me for the reason, I assumed that she might have had a fight with some boys, and that’s the reason they did this to her. But when I came to know that a civilian who worked there on behalf of the Police department did this brutality not for any reason but just because he was heavily drunk, I was literally shocked. And the news about how the hospital management is trying to cover it up is really a matter of concern.

Well, this is not the first time and I am sure this is not going to be the last time either. I might sound old-fashioned but I really mean it. Neither society nor any institution in which you are a part is going to protect you all the time, girl. Your family can’t safeguard you every time. Only you should ensure your safety. First, try to avoid risks. It will cut off half of the issue. Next, learn some self-defense. It is a must and can be useful to an extent.

I would suggest that every parent and educational institution should make it compulsory for the girls to learn self-defense. Hobbies are good, but self-defense is a must. Neither capital punishment nor rigorous imprisonment is going to change the filthy-minded people. It will be a never ending story like it has always been. So, girls, get more power and stay strong. And more importantly stay safe.
