Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy - Unsung Early Resistance to British
Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy
All these years we have been taught that the take-off of modern Indian history was from the north. While tracing through the course of freedom struggle, being a southie I have been disappointed a number of times that there was no much participation from the south. Sepoy mutiny, the so-far believed as the first struggle for freedom also kick-started majorly from the north. Not to blame anyone but we have survived in such an illusion all these days.
Recent findings of Keezhadi is making everyone to look back to re-check the world history. Now it is Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy which is reinstating that there were early resistances to British rule even before the famous 1857 revolt. I always admired the Santhal uprising, where the primitive tribals with just bow and arrow faced the mega canons and rifles of British, preaching us the power of confidence and self-respect.
After coming to know that the tale of Narasimha Reddy took place in 1847, that is exactly ten years before Sepoy mutiny and a hundred years before our independence is really inspiring. There are so many local heroes like Narasimha Reddy whose valor is unsung widely but just is living in folk tales. It is our duty to trace them and cherish the incredible sacrifices and real personality of our nation. On this note, I sincerely thank Megastar Chiranjeevi, Producer Ram Charan, Surender Reddy the Director and entire crew of Sye Raa for bringing up this magnum opus in front of us on silver screens.
The entire movie I was sitting on the seat edge. Many magical moments can be witnessed where few are nail-biting while few are breath-taking. Even though there are some exaggerations that cannot be avoided on commercial lines still the movie has succeeded in kindling the spirit of freedom struggle and nationalism. Hope in future more such projects be rolled down and offer us a chance to cherish our heritage.
Last but not least to mention the characterization of Lakshmi, very well played by Tamannah. Every character is carefully sculpted but Lakshmi stole my heart, the way she reacts on knowing the childhood marriage of Narasimha Reddy, the way she keeps up his words till her last breath, the way she turns into a human bomb and blasts the enemies. I am really amazed. I am not sure whether such character even really existed but we have Kuyili, the associate of Rani Velu Nachiar who is a suicide bomber, first of her kind as far as I know.
Overall it was an awesome experience to watch the historical blockbuster Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy!
