Dil Bechara || A gift to/from Sushant Singh Rajput
I have stopped watching movies online years back and developed a habit of watching it on big screens or televisions. But after seeing the overwhelming response for the movie ‘Dil Bechara’, that too from the Tamil Rajini fans, I decided to watch it. Thanks to Hotstar for making it available to even the non-subscribers, as a tribute to Sushant.
The movie starts with the narration of Kizie Basu, the heroine of the movie, about how boring her life is to be a sufferer of thyroid cancer who has to carry an oxygen cylinder always to keep her breathing, while oxygen is freely available to many others, and they even tend to forget an activity called breathing most of the times. A dialogue in her narration says that how she is being advised by many to be more strong and she raises a question that why she should be extra strong and why can’t she be normal. This has made me realize that it may look a great effort for the people who are advising others but the person who receives free advice will not be happy always to take it. So next time be sure that you are not giving any free advice unless someone asks for it.
Sanjana Sanghi has well portrayed the character of Kizie Basu with neat body language and I just loved her voice. Then comes the hero of the movie, Immanuel Rajkumar Junior, a Tamil guy and an ardent fan of Thalaivar Rajinikanth who is also suffering from Osteosarcoma. Since the movie is an after-release of the death of Sushant, his scenes receive more attention. I watched his every move with extra focus and guess many would have done the same. From an irritating fun-loving boy who makes fun of everything, then to a lover who struggles between excitement and fear, and finally, into a dying soul with a sinking heart, Sushant has struck it so hard in the movie and in our hearts. Everyone would say, already saying, that his death is a great loss of talent to the film industry.
The other two characters who also made an impact are the Dad and Mom of Kizie. They reminded me of the typical father-mother duo where the Dads used to be so cool and always supporting the kids. Moms are generally interrogative posing questions on each and everything which makes the kids always complain about them for interfering and stopping them from doing anything. The same was my feeling during my childhood, but later I realized that when the major situation comes, Moms become the strong support system of the kids than the Dads and stands with them till the end. Kizie’s Mom also has shown these shades. Initially, she becomes doubtful of the hero who laughs at everything and is quite natural, that too, as a mother of a girl who is in a delicate situation. But later she is the one who understands her child and all she wants is that her girl to be happy.
Dil Bechara is a typical Bollywood film which would have received mixed responses, but it became a super hit as a tribute to the great talent Sushant. No wonder it received so much love from Rajini fans because right from his introduction to the climax, we can witness so many references to Thalaivar. Well, it should not be mistaken that he gained so much affection only by taking the names of legends like Superstar and MSD, but because of his excellent emoting skills. Coming to logics, there is another movie called ‘Idhayathai Thirudaadhe’ starring Nagarjuna, a re-make of Telugu movie ‘Geetanjali’, one of my all-time favorite flicks, also holds a similar plot, one will realize that one who is counting his last days will act silly because it is one way he adopted to fight his fear. The message that both flicks conveyed me is “Losing loved ones is more painful than ourselves being at the final verges of life”
